Mourners from all over the country said farewell to photographer Bill Greenhough at an emotional service in Bramcote Crematorium, Nottinghamshire, yesterday.
Friends and colleagues from the regional press remembered his talent as a photographer, his generosity and his ability to hold people in the palm of his hand as he spun entertaining stories with intelligence and wit.
He was described as a traditional "newspaperman" by former colleagues from Stockport, Kent and Nottingham.
Bill (49) died suddenly at his home in Draycott, Derbyshire, two weeks ago today.
There was standing room only at the service as more than 150 people packed into the small chapel.
Among them were many photographers who worked with Bill when he was picture editor at the Nottingham Evening Post during the 1980s and early 1990s. Some of them have since retired, and others have moved on to freelance or to join national agencies, but all wanted to pay their own tribute to the popular and charismatic photographer.
In recent years Bill had set up his own highly successful photographic business.
