Journal man up for thebig prize

A front page picture from the Grantham Journal has made it to the final of a national photography competition.

The picture, of the Belvoir Hunt, by Journal photo manager Gerry Wright, has been chosen as one of the finalists.

But modestly, he says: "Looking at some of the other images I don't think I stand a chance."

His picture has been selected for the work category of the YR.1 competition. Having won £1,000 for his picture he can now aim for the national prize of £10,000.

The images will be judged in five categories: home, work, play, beauty and fame. The winning photo for each category will be put forward for the grand prize of £10,000.

The photography competition is looking for an image that best represents Britain in the 21st century, and is organised by Channel 4, supported by The Independent and Unisys.

The winner will be announced at a ceremony broadcast live on Channel 4 on Sunday
July 1.
