Mike in line for honorary degree

Photographer Mike Maloney is about to be presented with an honorary degree from the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside.

The Lincoln-born snapper will become a Doctor of Arts in recognition of his work as a newspaper photographer, and for his support of young people wishing to enter the profession, particularly those from his home city.

The award will be made in July at Lincoln Cathedral.

His 30 years in the business included a spell early on at the Lincoln Chronicle, where his work for the Lincolnshire Standard Group took him around the county.

The latest honour will join more than 90 awards achieved during his prize-winning career.

He was recently given a special award to mark a lifetime achievement in photography but the one from Lincoln means a lot.

Mike, who now works for The People, said: "Lincoln is the most important city in the world as far as I am concerned and I do my best to promote it whenever I can.

"I never went to university so this award is a special thrill for me."
