Kieran Doherty, also of Reuters, won £2,000 for the 2000 Fujifilm Portfolio Award for a Single Story, while the award for Business and Industry Photographer of the Year - the Lord Mayor's Award - went to a third Reuters photographer, Jeff Mitchell, last year's Royal Photographer of the Year.
The Independent also claimed three titles, Tom Craig scooping the Fujifilm Magazine Photographer of the Year. He was also named Fujifilm Arts & Entertainment Photographer of the year.
His colleague Andrew Paradise won the Guinness Award for Best Black and White Picture.
In another portfolio section, James Williamson, a freelance who contributes to the Scottish Daily Express, won the Guinness Young Photographer of the Year Award. He picked up a £2,000 prize and additional bursary funding of up to £3,000 for a major photographic assignment.
The Fujifilm News Photographer of the Year was Peter Jordan of the Press Association, while Neil Hanna, of The Scotsman, was named the 2000 Fujifilm Sports Photographer of the Year.
