The photographer responsible for a series of pictures of Prince William in South America is a former staffer from the Bristol Evening Post.

Award-winning Toby Melville's photos show the 18-year-old prince at work and at play during his gap-year expedition to southern Chile.

Toby now works for the Press Association in London and took the unique close-up pictures while the Prince was on a ten-week expedition with the charity Raleigh International. They have since been published in newspapers around the world.

During his time with the Evening Post, Toby won several major awards for his outstanding photographs.

In 1996, he won the title Sports Photographer of the Year at the annual Press Gazette Regional Awards for a picture of greyhound racing.

Toby added to his collection of accolades a year later when he was named BT News Photographer of the Year for the West of England.
