Photography student Allan Bovill (pictured) has netted a top prize - £500 and two weeks at Wimbledon.

He beat hundreds of other competitors from across the UK to win the Lawn Tennis Association's Wimbledon Bursary.

Allan (36), who is nearing the end of an NCTJ pre-entry press photography course at Sheffield Norton College, will spend two weeks at Wimbledon during this year's championships. He will be using digital cameras for the first time and part of his job will be to download images on to the LTA website.

"Hopefully, there will be some stuff on the Centre Court and as many key matches as I can get access to, but I will also be doing features on various aspects of Wimbledon.

"At the end of the tournament, I understand that the best images I take will be exhibited at Wimbledon for the forthcoming year."

Allan was a warehouse manager with a distribution company for six years before joining the course at Sheffield but has been interested in press photography since his early 20s.

He said that winning the bursary was "great", adding: "I'm slightly older than the avertage candidate, so I'm looking to get a good start in the industry. Hopefully, having won this, there will be a future for me in press photography."

This is the third year in which a Norton student has won the bursary.

Paul Delmar, head of photojournalism and press photography at the college, said: "Some people would love to win Wimbledon once but we've won it three times!"
