Tim scoops top award

Photographers from newspapers all over the Midlands converged on Tamworth for the Banks's Midlands Press Photographer of the Year Awards.

Some £3,500 in total prize money was handed out, with the top award of the night - Press Photographer of the Year - going to Tim Easthope of the Birmingham Post & Mail. He won £1,000.

Runner-up was Christopher Radburn of the Coventry Evening Telegraph, who won £250.

All the other prize winners received a certificate, an engraved tankard and a cash prize.

Judges for this year's competition were Martin Keene, of the Press Association; David Webb, of North News; Jeremy Eaton, of Vital and Adrian Willis, of Banks's.

A total of 30 newspapers across the Midlands entered the awards this year.

A spokesman for Banks's said: "The standard of entries keeps rising every year and we have had a fantastic response this time around."
