Worthy winner announced
Freelance photographer James Gibbard has been named as the sixth winner of the David Worthy Award.
The award was established in memory of the sports photographer killed on an assignment.
It is open to students on the NCTJ's press photography and photojournalism courses at Sheffield College and is awarded for the best portfolio.
James, who used to work for the Peterborough Evening Telegraph, wins £200.
His portfolio included a Royal scoop outside the Ritz Hotel, London, where he was the first photographer to get a shot of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles with her children.
Runner-up, who wins £50, was John Furlong of Guzelian Press Agency.
The judges were Phil O'Brien and Shaun Russell of EMPICS, the Nottingham-based photo agency, assisted by Jon Cohen and Russ Gunn of Fuji.
Phil, who is a trustee of the award, said: "Picking a winner was difficult. All the portfolios were of a very good standard and showed that a high level of skill had been acquired during the one-year course at Sheffield College".
