ABC Figures: MNA signs up to combined print and online report

The Midland News Association has joined the list of regional newspaper publishers to audit their web hit and print circulation figures in the same report.

In February, the Audit Bureau of Circulations released its first 'one-stop' report for print and online stats covering the period June to December 2008.

Now the MNA, publisher of the Express and Star and Shropshire Star, joins Guardian Regional Media, Newsquest, Johnston Press, Northcliffe, Trinity Mirror and Iliffe on the combined report.

The majority of the 64 audited websites showed an increase with some increasing unique users by over 25pc.

A sample of the companies' monthly unique users for the six months ending June 2009 can be found below. Comparative percentages figures are for period-on-period, rather then year-on-year.

I can't imagine advertisers falling for this - there's no value to any of these figures and there needs to be a decent way of accounting for web visitors. Too many websites are manipulating headlines and stories to attract hits - not readers. People just hit and then bounce away.
