Trinity Mirror website goes online - in a blog format

The Buckinghamshire Advertiser has launched its website – in a blog format.

It is a departure from Trinity Mirror's other newspaper websites and could pave the way for others to follow.

Many Trinity Mirror sites use the company's icnetwork format with individual centres now developing their own identity.

The latest launch follows the pattern set up in the north east, where Trinity Mirror's hyper-local postcode area sites run on the same technology.

The new Buckinghamshire Advertiser site is set out using a straightforward structure, with Movable Type software, the same as many amateur bloggers operate from home.

It shares the same characteristics of the now-familiar blogging format, with stories posted on the same page in reverse chronological order, giving the opportunity for readers to comment, and it also offers tagging, so that stories can be organised into individual sections.

The Bucks Examiner will follow suit with its own website in the same format next week.

Editor Julie Voyce, (right), said the new site would create a community site for readers to embrace and interact with.

She said: "We wanted to have a site that was going to be user-friendly.

"We also wanted a site where readers could get involved and this made it easier for readers to comment on what has been published and send in their own stories.”

The Advertiser site was launched last week and is the first time the paper has had its own website.

Julie said: "The reporters here are all really excited about it - and that people will be able to comment on their stories and give immediate feedback on their work.

"We are adding more features. Next week sees the start of the editor's blog and we are also hoping to get people in the community in as bloggers as well.”

The website is set to be updated several times a day, working with the print edition to give readers a full digest of news, with the newspaper itself giving more in-depth information on the week's stories.

The Advertiser and Examiner group sells 15,000 papers a week in total.
