Investigative journalism students find 20 anomalies in 1981 case

Journalism students who turned their coursework into a real-life investigation are the subject of a radio documentary this weekend.

Broadcaster Roger Philips will follow the students at Edinburgh's Napier University in a BBC Radio Scotland programme.

It will explain how they looked into the case of Ray Gilbert, who was convicted in 1981 of murdering a Liverpool bookmaker, John Suffield.

The students believe they may have uncovered a miscarriage of justice after finding around 20 anomalies in the case.

All are in the hands of the Gilbert legal team, which is hopeful he will one day be freed.

The Great Live Paper Chase airs on BBC Radio Scotland on Sunday at 12.05pm.
