Web news bulletins by homeless former broadcaster are scrapped

Plans for a homeless ex-TV newscaster to read video bulletins for his local paper's website have been cancelled.

Ed Mitchell, who once earned £100,000 a year working for CNBC, was due to broadcast daily bulletins for The Argus' website, in Brighton.

Ed has apparently been sleeping rough on Hove seafront after being made redundant by the American channel and racking up £250,000 of debt.

After The Argus ran stories last week highlighting his plight, the paper was inundated with offers of accommodation and work for the 54-year-old – as well as interview requests from the national media.

Ed was due to broadcast the video bulletins every day this week.

But the agreement was later dropped "by mutual consent" according to The Argus' website.

In a further development Ed was arrested by police after allegedly hitting a woman in a £130-a-night hotel, in Brighton.

He was later released without charge.

Ed had been put up at the hotel after doing an interview with a Sunday newspaper.
