India has been chosen to host the 62nd World Newspaper Congress, 16th World Editors Forum and Info Services Expo in 2009, the World Association of Newspapers announced today.
The global summit meetings of the world's press will be held from 22 to 25 March 2009 in Hyderabad and will be hosted by the Indian Newspaper Society. India has than 2,000 daily newspapers in 100 languages with a combined circulation of 88m.

Jane Lighting will join the Trinity Mirror board as a non-executive director on January 2.
Jane is chief executive of TV channel Five. Prior to joining Five in 2003 she was chief executive of Flextech plc. Jane is the chair and a Fellow of the Royal Television Society, Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and until recently was governor of the National Film and Television School.

A host of senior figures from the regional press will attend this year’s Newspaper Conference annual lunch at which a senior cabinet minister will be the guest speaker.

Sidmouth Herald editor Emma Silverthorne is swapping life at the newsdesk for months at the nappy changing table as she heads off on maternity leave.
Her role will be taken on by acting editor Pete Le Riche, who having worked as a reporter and sub-editor on the Herald for five years, spent a year working as assistant editor of the Wandsworth Borough News in London, before returning to his native East Devon.
