Editors from across the world to join study tour in north-west England

The Manchester Evening News and University of Central Lancashire are both playing host to editors from across the world next month.

The World Editors Forum has picked the two institutions for inclusion in its so-called 'Study Tour' of the UK.

Membership of the forum is open to senior editors from across the globe to share ideas and information on anything from motivating staff to getting more out of budgets.

As part of the five-day seminar, the editors will be dropping in at the Department of Journalism, in Preston, to see how it helped Johnston Press pilot the UK's first fully-integrated newsroom.

Speakers will include head of journalism Mike Ward and Johnston Press chief executive Tim Bowdler.

The delegates will then make the short trip across east Lancashire for the following day's tour of the new offices at the Manchester Evening News.

Last year the MEN transformed itself into a fully multimedia platform which included the decision to hand out free copies of the paper in the city's main shopping areas.

Before heading north the editors will have taken in some of the capital's best-known media organisations including the Guardian, Daily Telegraph, The Times, Financial Times and the BBC's College of Journalism.
