Oxford Mail photographer Yuri Anderegg has won a prestigious award in an international photography competition.
The International Trierenberg Super Circuit Awards 2007, organised by the International Federation of Photographic Art and the Photographic Society of America, were held in Austria where he took a gold medal in the series and sequences category. His work, featuring images of a spotted Bengal cat named Leo, were taken on location in Oxfordshire, with each image presenting a unique insight into feline life.

A Derbyshire Dales photographer has put together a book – Echoes of the Dales – featuring images of the Dales in the 1960s.
Ron Duggins, (72), who has worked for the Matlock Mercury, is already aiming to publish a follow-up to the book that will show images of the area in the 1970s. He said that it would be a shame for "those thousands of negatives not to be seen."

A Press and Journal photographic exhibition reflecting the life and culture of the Highlands has begun a tour of the north of Scotland.
The exhibition is part of the Aberdeen newspaper's support for Highland 2007.

St Andrew's Citizen journalist, Gabrielle Miles, took part in the New York City Marathon while on her honeymoon.
Gabrielle and her husband John competed in the race and raised money in aid of Yorkshire Cancer Research.

The Gannet Foundation has helped fund the opening of a new pontoon, which will be used by the New Forest and District Sailability club.
Club members are disabled and the £5,000 donation from the Gannet Foundation, part of the firm which owns Newsquest, was welcomed when the £20,000 pontoon was unveiled at the club's lake base early last week.

As part of its campaign to crack down on the menace of distraction burglars and rogue traders in the region, the Western Daily Press is giving away a new set of stickers with top tips to keep safe at home.
Available free from most Daily Press newsagents, it wants the 5,000 Keep 'Em Out stickers to be given, in particular, to elderly or vulnerable friends and relatives, the primary target for the conning criminals.

The shoebox appeal, run by local charity Christian Response, is aimed at giving the people of Moldova a better Christmas.
Echo editor Marc Astley also promoted the appeal during an interview on Radio Devon on the same day the appeal was published in the newspaper.
