Telegraph milestone marked with VIP reception

A reception to mark the Scunthorpe Telegraph's 70th anniversary has been held at the paper's North Lincolnshire offices.

Editor Jane Manning was joined by special guests including MPs, customers and civic dignitaries - including Coun Tony Ellerby, Mayor of North Lincolnshire, who cut a special 'birthday' cake.

Jane was also presented with a Scunthorpe United shirt signed by Billy Sharp to display in the paper's offices.

  • Later in the day many retired employees returned to the Telegraph to celebrate with current staff.

Jane said: "We pride ourselves on being at the heart of all things local, and it was nice to share our celebrations with so many local people who support us."

The celebration follows the paper's anniversary last month, which was marked on the day with a specially-produced supplement.

An exhibition of photographs and front pages from the Telegraph has also been running at North Lincolnshire Museum in Scunthorpe.
