Online fashion venture pools resources from across the newsroom

An online fashion column has been launched by The Bolton News, pooling resources from across the newsroom.

Sub editor Jenny Minard and trainee reporter Tracey Scott approached internet editor Chris Sudlow with an idea to create Bolton Boutique, a fresh, local look at fashion.

Once given the go ahead, Jenny and Tracey worked on creating the content.

Graphics were drawn up by artists Lisa Hackett and Paul Dobson and a modern design for the site was created in conjunction with Chris to distinguish it from the rest of The Bolton News's online offering.

The site now complements the fashion page in the newspaper's Weekend supplement and draws on beauty and clothing experts from across the town.

Readers are invited to contribute, asking Jenny and Tracey for fashion advice, and they can comment on the individual reports. People are also being encouraged to go to the site's forum and swap fashion tips.

Chris said: "Jenny and Tracey are extremely enthusiastic about the project and came brimming with ideas. We encourage our journalists to think up fresh ways to drive readers to our website and having two people with a passion for their subject meant were able to push ahead and create the site."

It is also hoped advertisers will be attracted to the Bolton Boutique to bring in a fresh revenue steam.
