Reporting at the sharp end took on a whole new meaning for Telegraph & Argus reporter Rebecca Wright when she took part in a charity walk – over broken glass.
The intrepid newshound volunteered to join in when she heard the Mayor of Bradford was attempting the stunt, and raised £178 for Bradford Cancer Support too.
She said: "Beforehand, I was very nervous and I had images of my feet being sliced to ribbons, but being with a group of people helped.
"When I first put my foot down on the glass it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be – it was like stepping on a stony beach.
"As long as you kept up your pace and relaxed it was okay.
"Turning round to go back was tricky, though. I am proud to have done it."
Rebecca and her fellow volunteers walked across 20 feet of razor-sharp pieces of glass from 1,000 smashed wine bottles.
Brave participants were first put into the right state of mind at a motivational psychology seminar before tentatively putting their best feet forward on glass, and were told the hardest part was not walking through the glass but walking through the wall of fear that inhibits those taking part.
Rebecca said: "In total I raised £178 for Bradford Cancer Support, which is a fantastic amount.
"You'll be pleased to know I didn't need to spend any of the money on private medical care, in fact I recommend walking on broken glass to anyone looking for an alternative kind of pedicure!"
