The Manchester Evening News published a front page showing the faces of all the people killed by guns in Greater Manchester in the past eight years as it revealed the findings of its investigation into the problem of gun crime.
The shocking P1 named all 55 victims and pictured 50 of them using images from its archive - and also revealed that in 29 cases no one had been brought to justice.
It brought a strong reaction from readers and the police, and within two days Greater Manchester Police chief constable Michael Todd pledged £500,000 to fund additional policing in the areas hardest hit by the recent increase in shootings.
