Staff at The Herald in Glasgow held a 24-hour strike yesterday, as the National Union of Journalists revealed it intended to take further industrial action.

Union members from the Newsquest daily did not report for work, and instead a "token picket line" was set up outside its Renfield Street offices as part of the ongoing protest at proposed compulsory redundancies at the company.

The NUJ says three people are affected, while the company says it is now one person.

The action followed a walk out by journalists at the The Herald and sister papers the Sunday Herald and Evening Times last weekend.

NUJ Scottish organiser Paul Holleran said the company would also be getting notice of further action - and although he could not yet reveal exact details it would be "similar to last week".

Herald & Times managing director Tim Blott said titles were continuing to be published as normal.

He added that there had been no direct dialogue with the NUJ since the industrial action was announced.
