Self-regulation of the press report due today

The Culture, Media and Sport Committee is today due to publish the findings of an inquiry into self-regulation of the press.

'Self-regulation of the press', the committee’s seventh report, will also look at the effectiveness of the Press Complaints Commission Code of Practice and the treatment of public figures by photographers.

In February, when the inquiry was announced, the committee said it wanted to gather evidence on issues including self-regulation of both online and print news, whether the law on unauthorised disclosure of personal information needed to be strengthened, and privacy.

The committee is chaired by John Whittingdale, Conservative MP for Maldon and East Chelmsford.
