The death of a South London Press journalist is no longer being treated as suspicious.

Deputy sports editor Rajbir Johal, (34), was found dead at home on Monday and a post-mortem examination proved inconclusive.

Further tests are being carried out but police have now said his death is not being treated as suspicious.

Raj joined the South London Press from the Kentish Times in 1999.

He was the South London Press's Charlton Athletic FC reporter, covering home and away matches for almost eight years.

Charlton chief executive Peter Varney has paid tribute on the club's website.

He said: "I was shocked to hear of the death of Raj, with whom I enjoyed a good working relationship over many years.

"His coverage of our club was always informative and he was hard working and dedicated in his approach to his job.

"During a pre-season training camp in Valencia at the start of the season I got to know him quite well, and he had a great sense of humour and was passionate in his support for Leicester City.

"He will be sadly missed by all his many friends at the club, and our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family at this time."
