Editor returns home to take charge at the Skegness Standard

Becky Baker is to become the new editor of the Skegness Standard.

Currently editor of the Horncastle News, she will succeed John Cowpe who is leaving the Lincolnshire weekly after 20 years at the helm.

Becky, (28), previously worked at the Standard for four years and grew up in Skegness.

She told HoldtheFrontPage: "I've lived in the town for almost 20 years so I'm really chuffed to be returning to my home patch even though I've enjoyed my time here.

"It's been fab getting to know a new place and everyone here has been a pleasure to work with."

Becky (pictured) began her career as a trainee reporter on the Skegness Standard and later became chief reporter there.

She then moved to the central subbing department for Standard publisher Lincolnshire Newspapers, based in Louth.

She took on her first editorship at the group's Horncastle News six months ago.

Becky will start her new role on April 16, taking over from her former boss John.

She said: "John was was a great person to learn from while I was there - he is a stickler for detail which helped me when I began subbing.

"He also taught me to be tenacious and not to let 'no' get in the way, but to always be polite.

"He is not one of these hacks you see swearing on TV - he is a very calm man and I hope to carry on that style!"

The weekly Horncastle News has a circulation of 5,678. The Skegness Standard Series sells 11,051 copies a week.
