York Vision is breaking new ground in student journalism with a major move into the web to launch a digital edition of its newspaper.
Staff claim it is the first student newspaper in the UK to produce a digital edition.
The interactive 3D page-turning replica of its printed version also has the option to be enhanced with features such as audio, flash, video and hyperlinks. It can be read online or offline without the need for any special software downloads.
Editor Ben Matthews said: "Vision is once again leading the way in student journalism.
"Not only is our newspaper the NUS Small-Budget Publication of the Year, but with the simultaneous release of both digital and print versions, Vision is embracing the future of a converging media."
The digital edition also makes use of Vision’s revitalised website, a previous winner of Website of the Year in the Guardian Student Media Awards.
Available online at www.yorkvision.co.uk, it is sponsored by Digital Alternatives, the UK market leader for the production of Digital Editions.
Last year, York Vision set another first by becoming the first student newspaper in the UK to produce a fully glossy magazine, The Scene, which was released as part of the main newspaper.
