A complaint about an advert for a job vancancies website run by Archant Norfolk has been partially upheld, with the Advertising Standards Authority ruling that it could mislead.
The advert read: "Finding that New Job could be just a click away! Thousands of new local vacancies each week. EDP24 The original local jobs website."
But competitor Justjobsnorfolk.co.uk challenged the accuracy of the claim "thousands of new local vacancies each week", and after investigating, the ASA said the claim could be misleading.
It said that although there were numerous jobs on EDP24, many were outside Norfolk and readers were likely to interpret the claim "thousands of new local vacancies each week" to mean that there would be thousands of new vacancies in the Norfolk area.
Archant told the ASA that the claim did not feature in the current version of their ad.
Justjobsnorfolk.co.uk also disputed the claim "the original local jobs website" and said it misleadingly implied that EDP24.co.uk was a jobs website, when it believed it was the address for an online newspaper.
This was dismissed by the ASA.
It said the EDP24 website was a hub that would allow readers to access their jobs sub-site by clicking on the "Jobs" link, and that while the presentation of the EDP24 homepage resembled that of an online newspaper, it also acknowledged that the jobs sub-site carried many of the features associated with a jobs website.
It added that, although the address for the jobs sub-site could have been more accurately described in the ad as www.edp24.co.uk/jobs, the "Jobs" link on the EDP24 homepage was prominently featured and readers wishing to search for jobs would not have difficulty in doing so.
