Past and present Packet staff set for reunion

Staff at the Falmouth-based Packet series are planning a reunion which has already attracted interest from around the UK.

The event is being organised by Mike Buckley, who has worked in the newspaper's production department for more than 40 years, and former production manager Bob Merritt.

The reunion will be at the Watersports Centre in Grove Place, Falmouth, on Saturday, March 24, and two former editors – Ken Thompson, now retired, and Mark Humphreys, who works for the PA in the north of England – have already confirmed that they will be attending.

The Packet, at one time a training ground for the Daily Express, is now part of the Newsquest Media Group.

After the Express group was acquired by United Newspapers in the 1980s, the Packet was sold to Tindle Newspapers and soon after that the Yattendon Investment Trust took over.

The Packet later became part of Southern Newspapers, which changed its name to Newscom before being acquired by Newsquest.

Further information about the reunion is available from Bob Merritt on 01326 373594.
