Star trio promoted to key newsdesk positions

A trio of senior appointments has been made at the Evening Star in Ipswich, which the editor, Nigel Pickover, says will set the title on course for a dynamic 2007 – both in print and online.

Colin Adwent is promoted to assistant editor with specific responsibility for provision of all on-line content at www.eveningstar.co.uk, a new direction for the role.

He will work alongside the news, features and sport to ensure the website moves forward as "one of the best breaking news sites" in the regional press.

He will work with web manager James Goffin to develop other on-line content streams, including video. Colin will liaise with the news editor on background material and investigations and will also support the newsdesk day-to-day operation. He moves from being chief reporter and was previously news editor following a stint as crime reporter.

Jess Gallagher becomes news editor, with responsibility for all news content online and in print. She is a former health reporter and deputy news editor.

Grant Sherlock is promoted to chief reporter, working alongside Jess and working with the reporting team in the delivery of their web and print content objectives.

Nigel said: "These appointments underscore the hard work and dedication of individuals and our commitment to provide timely, rich and ever-changing content for our growing audience."

They are effective from February 1.
