Trinity Mirror appoints head of multimedia for regionals division

Trinity Mirror has appointed Derby Evening Telegraph assistant editor Michael Hill as head of multimedia for its regionals division.

In the newly-created role he will lead the development and integration of online journalism, video journalism, podcasting and citizen journalism into the group's print operations, working closely with editors and newsroom staff.

Michael (pictured) said: "I am very excited about my new role and I'm really looking forward to starting work in an area which is now being seen as an opportunity for papers, rather than a threat to their future.

"The key will be to build on the work already underway and further integrate the print and online operations so they become truly complementary.

"By playing to the strengths of each platform, the aim will be to produce compelling multimedia content which will increase audience and revenue in every marketplace."

Michael has worked at the Derby Evening Telegraph since 1994 in a variety of roles including deputy news editor and news editor, and has been in his current role since 2002.

In addition to his duties on the Telegraph's print edition he is currently responsible for leading the integration of the title's print and online activities, and will join Trinity Mirror in late Autumn.

He began his career on the Leicester Herald & Post.

Trinity Mirror's regionals editorial director, Neil Benson, said: "Michael has a strong track record of developing innovative ideas to improve both newspapers and their digital platforms and services.

"This is a tremendously exciting and challenging time for traditional publishers as we reshape our businesses for the future.

"Michael will play a key role as we continue to develop into a true multi-platform publisher."
