Guardian Media Group has conditionally acquired Saga Radio from Saga Group Limited for an undisclosed sum.
Saga Radio currently operates three radio services in the UK, based in the East Midlands, West Midlands and Glasgow, with a fourth due to launch across the North East in 2007. Also included in the sale are the digital radio assets of Saga Radio.
GMG Radio now owns 12 major FM stations.


Ronan Henry has been appointed news editor of the Belfast Telegraph.
Ronan (39) joined the company in 1992 and has been deputy news editor for the last nine years.
Telegraph editor Martin Lindsay said: "Ronan is a journalist with vast experience and is just the person we need to enhance the Telegraph's long-established reputation as the leading news gathering operation in Northern Ireland."


The Blackpool Gazette has collected nearly two tons of goods for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan in just 14 days.
The Royal Marines Association had hoped to send 100 boxes to the soldiers, but after teaming up with the Gazette they were flooded with donations from readers.
Thousands of biscuits, toothbrushes, books, Christmas cards and more have now been packed up and shipped off in 900 shoe boxes in time for December 25.


Allan Guy, a former journalist at The Citizen in Gloucester, has been given the David Fox Memorial Award for Outstanding Broadcasting on radio station Cam FM.
The award was presented in memory of David Fox, whose programmes of old jazz records played on two wind-up gramophones were a popular feature of Cam fm broadcasts. He died in 2004.
Allan worked in the Stroud office of The Citizen in the 1980s and 90s.


Leyland Guardian editor Chris Maguire finished third out of 75 hopefuls who entered BBC Radio Lancashire's competition 'The Gift', to find a presenter.
The journalist made the final five but was evicted after the penultimate public vote.
The eventual winner, 33-year-old Stephen Lowe, will present an hour-long show on New Year's Eve.
