National Union of Journalists members at The Herald, Sunday Herald and Evening Times in Glasgow have set a date for strike action in their ongoing protest to a change in the date they are paid.

Union members say they will walk out at 2pm on Friday, November 24 until 10am on Saturday, November 25 - understood to be one of the busiest times of the week as the deadline for the Sunday paper approaches.

Staff at owners Newsquest (Herald & Times) also say they will embark on a continuous 'work to rule' on Tuesday, November 21 until further notice.

The company says it will be continue to publish its titles as normal.

The action follows a move by the company to change the monthly pay date from the 20th to the 26th.

Newsquest says this is "merely an administrative issue" and that it is does not materially benefit from the change, but union members say they have been hit financially and have called for an across the board compensation package.

Tim Blott, regional managing director of Newsquest (Herald & Times), has previously said that the company had offered to compensate staff who could provide evidence that they have been adversely affected.

More than 200 NUJ members took part in a ballot on industrial action earlier this month, with 81 per cent voting in favour of a strike and 92 per cent voting for industrial action short of a strike.
