Union marks centenary of meeting that helped lay foundations for its launch

More than 100 journalists and friends gathered in Leeds to celebrate the centenary of an historic meeting which helped lay the foundations for the launch of the National Union of Journalists.

In autumn of 1906 between 150 and 200 journalists met at the Metropole Hotel in Leeds and made plans to form a trades union for journalists.
