South coast journalists vote to strike over pay

National Union of Journalists members at the Southern Daily Echo in Southampton have voted to strike in a dispute over pay.

The union says chapel members voted unanimously in favour of a strike, having previously agreed to give management a final chance to draw up proposals to settle the dispute over salaries and banding levels.

Staff plan to walk out next week, on October 25 and 26.

The union claims chapel officers have put "numerous" proposals forward since rejecting the management's last offer two months ago, but each one has been rejected.
