Print and web combine to celebrate rugby's big night

The biggest weekend in Hull's rugby league history was celebrated with extensive coverage by the Hull Daily Mail in print editions and on its website.

Readers and rugby fans were alerted to the in-depth coverage in Monday's editions by flashes on the newspaper's website just minutes after Hull Kingston Rovers secured promotion to the Super League on Sunday night.

The promotion brings a return to city derby clashes with Super League rivals Hull FC, which also celebrated success at the weekend by toppling reigning champions Bradford Bulls to book their first ever place in a Super League Grand Final.

The double celebration was marked with 14 pages in the Hull Daily Mail's Monday editions, a round-up of all the news and sports coverage on the thisishullandeastriding website plus a video report marking the historic event.

Editor John Meehan said: "It was an historical weekend for Hull and we were proud to mark both achievements with extensive coverage in our print editions as well as online, including a video and slideshows of fans celebrating.

"We are now looking forward to a Super League season in the capital of rugby league."
