Press claims exclusive on 'Hamster' crash

The Press at York is claiming a newspaper first after Top Gear presenter Richard 'Hamster' Hammond was badly injured while reportedly attempting to break the land speed record at around 300mph.

The accident happened on an old wartime airfield outside York and The Press's photographer Nigel Holland got exclusive still pictures of ambulance crews dealing with the accident.

As the paper hit the streets, it released the photographs to Sky TV who ran them on Sky News with a credit for the newspaper.

As part of the deal, Sky released to The Press film shot from a helicopter showing the crash scene. The paper used this footage in its video report of the story on its website, www.yorkpress.co.uk.

It is thought this is the first time a regional newspaper website has pulled off such a coup.
