Royal opening for Johnston's new £60m press

Johnston Press has officially opened its new £60m printing plant in Dinnington, South Yorkshire.

The Duke of Kent was among 100 guests to tour the ten-acre state-of-the-art plant, housing the first 'triple width' newspaper press in the UK.

He inspected the new press and saw the latest edition of the Sheffield Star being produced before unveiling a plaque and signing the visitor book.

When fully commissioned, the plant will print 50 Johnston Press titles, including the Sheffield Star, Scarborough Evening News, Wakefield Express, Chesterfield Advertiser and Sheffield Telegraph, as well as several external printing contracts, including The Sun for News International.
