Consultants brought in to look at Archant newsrooms

A detailed review of newsgathering is under way at many of Archant's regional newspapers.

The company has brought in a team of consultants to look at its editorial departments at Archant Norfolk, Archant Suffolk, Archant Herts & Cambs and its London weeklies, sparking fears jobs could be cut.

The four divisions employ some 500 editorial staff between them, producing four daily papers and dozens of weeklies.

The review is understood to include newsdesks, reporters and features departments, with the focus on how content is gathered.

How much copy is produced by staffers, how much is submitted from other sources and the content of edition pages will be looked at, along with opportunities for content sharing.

It is thought the review may not be completed until Christmas.
