The Evening Times in Glasgow produced a slip edition for its late night special edition to bring readers news of politician Tommy Sheridan's defamation victory over the News of the World.
The five-week trial had led the Scottish news agenda over the summer with claims of orgies, sex clubs and political in-fighting.
The Evening Times had already made contingency plans to deal with the verdict by holding back its Late Night Special Edition which normally has an off-stone time of 2.30pm.
But with the jury not returning its verdict until well after 4pm on Friday Aug 4, staff on the paper pulled out all the stops to produce a special slip with a 5.45pm off-stone time, with a poster front page and four more pages on the verdict inside.
Copies were on the streets by 6pm and early estimates show a 1500 sales lift.
The next day's paper carried five further pages of news on the case.
