Regional reporter-turned-TV news girl Penny to guest at press club lunch

GMTV presenter and former Peterborough Evening Telegraph journalist Penny Smith is to be the guest of honour at a celebrity lunch organised by the Birmingham Press Club.

Penny, who has been appearing on breakfast TV since 1993, will appear at the event at Blue Mango in Birmingham on September 29.

She began her career at the Peterborough Evening Telegraph, where she worked for four years before leaving to backpack her way around South America for 12 months, and will entertain guests with tales of her rise to fame.

Before joining GMTV she also presented Sky News, and earlier this year took part in BBC singing contest Just the Two of Us.

Press Club chairman John Lamb said: "As an early riser myself, I regularly tune into GMTV to find out what's going on in the world.

"So, after all this time of watching her read the news, it will be a pleasure to meet Penny Smith in the flesh.

"We look forward to welcoming her to the oldest Press Club in the world at what should be an extremely entertaining and lively event."
