New masthead for Telegraph as subtle change kicks in

The Greenock Telegraph has this week unveiled a new masthead, as new editor Tom McConigley makes his mark on the paper.

The Renfrewshire daily has kept its Old English-style font for the word 'Telegraph', but 'Greenock' has been given a new font and made smaller to fit above 'Telegraph' rather than alongside it.

The subtle change is an effort to modernise the look of the paper whilst still keeping a traditional feel and not upsetting the paper's loyal readers.

The well-established title, published by Clyde & Forth Press, has an average circulation of 18,446, giving it a penetration of around 80 per cent.

Since editor Tom McConigley joined the paper in January, he has made a number of subtle changes to tidy up the design of the paper and give it a more modern feel.

He has also drawing on its traditions, recently bringing back the 'Talk of the Town' column.

He was previously editor of the Paisley & Renfrewshire Gazette.
