News duo teams up for 'World According To...' cartoon show

A collection of offbeat cartoons by Liverpool Post and Echo staff Tony Hall and Peter Grant has gone on display in an exhibition in the city.

Peter, the Echo's TV editor, and syndications manager Tony, have collaborated on 40 cartoons for 'The World According to Tony Hall and Peter Grant'.

Split into three sections, 'History Hiccups' re-captures great moments in time with some twists - such as Neil Armstrong landing on the moon only to find a parking meter, 'The Galaxy's Guide to Hitch-Hikers', pictures famous people thumbing a lift, and 'Ozone', a collection of Tony's cartoons.

Peter told HoldtheFrontPage: "Tony is a great illustrator. I noticed one of his cartoons in the Echo one day and hadn't realised it was his work. It reminded me of Gary Larson and the Far Side.

"I gave him a few ideas to work on and when the cartoon was dropped from the paper I thought it was a pity they wouldn't be seen."

The exhibition at View Two Gallery in Liverpool opened on June 23 and is running until July 8, with a limited number of signed, framed prints for sale.

Many of the Post and Echo staff gathered for a preview of the exhibition, and it also received a favourable review in the Post.

Peter said: "I'm usually the one doing the reviewing so to be reviewed was a strange experience - especially as you are friends with these people - but you have to let them make up their own minds."

Tony and Peter are now working on a children's book, depicting famous famous people as children, for later in the year.
