Two former Bristol Evening Post journalists planning to launch a new business magazine in the city say they are encouraged by the response to their venture.

Former Post features editor Bill Davis and senior features writer Tom Henry have pooled their resources to set up the firm Ten Four Publishing, after taking redundancy in March.

The first project is to launch Work:Life magazine, which Bill says will be the serious business magazine that the city is crying out for.

He told HoldtheFrontPage: "All the other main business areas have something like this and so we saw a gap in the market and have gone for it.

"We've had a terrific response from local businesses and business leaders and it seems there is a real need for this magazine."

As well as news and analysis on Bristol's business community, the magazine will also cover other aspects of business life such as corporate hospitality, networking opportunities and even where to take clients for business lunches.

It will also offer advice on setting up your own business - something which Bill and Tom now have first-hand experience of.

The first issue is planned to hit the streets in September, with 30,000 copies then distributed monthly to offices, bars and hotels and handed out at Bristol railway station and in the city centre.

Bill said: "It is really exciting and has given us a new lease of life, especially with the response we have been getting which has been very encouraging.

"We will also be launching a Work:Life website which we hope will develop fast and will be quite significant in Bristol - watch this space!"

Bill had worked at the Evening Post for 14 years, while Tom had been there for six, having previously worked for the Western Daily Press. Both have previously been involved in the launch of several magazine and supplements for the Post.

Another former Post employee, Allie Parsons, has also joined the Work:Life as advertising executive.
