Broadcaster Vine to return to Midlands roots for press club event

Well-known broadcaster Jeremy Vine is to be the guest of honour at a celebrity dinner organised by the Birmingham Press Club.

Jeremy, who began his career as a trainee on the Coventry Evening Telegraph, will return to his Midlands roots for the event at the Opus restaurant in Birmingham on September 6.

He will entertain guests will tales of his time in the media, which has seen him in various roles at the BBC since leaving the Evening Telegraph in 1987.

His many jobs have included lobby correspondent and Africa correspondent, as well as presenting Newsnight, and he now presents a daily current affairs and music programme on BBC Radio 2.

The dinner will follow earlier Press Club celebrity events which guest starred Sun columnist Jane Moore, former Mirror editor Piers Morgan and Daily Mail columnist Richard Littlejohn.

Press Club chairman John Lamb said: "We are delighted to have attracted a speaker of Jeremy's quality. He has wide experience in the media and he will certainly make interesting listening.

"His links with the Coventry Evening Telegraph demonstrate what an superb breeding ground the Midlands has been for national newspapers, radio and television.

"We have already had visits from Jane Moore and Richard Littlejohn, who both worked at the Evening Mail."
