Has reporter Jodie got the 'X-factor'?

Move over Shayne! Staff at the Bridlington Free Press think their colleague Jodie Beecroft has more of the X Factor.

Jodie went along to the town's Red Bamboo Recording Studio to find out if she had what it takes to be a singing sensation.

The thought of singing karaoke in a room full of people normally fills her with dread so she had to have her arm twisted ever so slightly to record a track which would then be put on the paper's website for anyone - especially her mum - to listen to.

After a difficult decision, Jodie eventually decided to have a pop at KT Tunstall’s The Other Side.

Then with lyric sheet in hand she was away.

The reporter-turned-songstress said: "I always thought if I did make it as a pop star, which was never going to happen, I would not be able to remember the words so I was quite grateful for the lyrics.

"I was told to relax and enjoy it and as I made my way into the sound-proof room I began to feel a little bit like a pop star – it was just like you see it on television.

"I had to sing the song about four times.

"Although I was stood there like a scarecrow to begin with, I did loosen up as time passed and I can actually say I enjoyed it."

The sample was mixed and mastered and then Jodie had her photo taken in front of the microphone and it was printed onto the CD, which was hers to keep.

And once colleagues in the newsroom got their hands on it they were able to give their verdict – “Pretty good but stick to the day job!”
