Newsquest jobs to go in Bolton and Bury

Up to 12 editorial jobs are to be cut in Bolton and Bury as they become the latest Newsquest centres to be hit by redundancies.

Staff at the Bolton Evening News and the weekly Bury Times have been told that jobs are to be cut in sport, photographic and news and commercial features, and four existing vacancies at the papers will not be filled.

The sports team in Bury will be merged with that in Bolton, resulting in one redundancy, and the picture desk at Bury will also be merged with that at Bolton, resulting in four job losses.

One reporter will move from Bury to Bolton, leaving seven reporters and five sub-editors based at Bury.

In addition one editorial support role will be made redundant in Bolton.
