Former Bucks editor given woodland burial

Former Buckinghamshire journalist John How has died, at the age of 91.

He joined the Bucks Advertiser as a cub reporter after leaving school and returned to the paper as editor after serving in the Far East during the Second World War.

Under his editorship the paper introduced photographs.

John left for The Watford Post and later moved to High Wycombe to join the Bucks Free Press in the mid-1960s.

He was also responsible for setting up the Midweek Free Press, in 1968, and remained editor until his retirement.

One of his popular contributions was the "How's About" column, in which he related the local exploits of himself and his wife Erica, who was always referred to as the Queen Bee.

John's coffin was decorated with images of bowls woods and typewriter keys to mark the two main interests of his life.

During his retirement John was a parish clerk for more than 20 years.

He was given a woodland burial and a celebration of his life is planned for this summer.
