Career sub-editor has died, aged 77

A sub-editor who used to work for Aberdeen Journals Ltd has died after a fall.

Alex Thomson was 77 and had been suffering with Alzheimer’s Disease.

His first job in newspapers was as a proof reader with the Press & Journal.

He later worked in the newspapers’ joint library before being offered the chance to train as a journalist.

Alex then went on to become a sub-editor and spent the rest of his career subbing news and sports pages at the Evening Express up until his retirement in 1987.

Away from work, he was editor of his church newsletter for many years.
