Scotland on Sunday editor Iain Martin is leaving the paper.
He is to join the Telegraph Group, which publishes The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph, in a senior role.
The exact details of the post have not yet been finalised but he is likely to report to editor-in-chief John Bryant.
Iain has been editor of Scotland on Sunday since November 2004, having previously edited sister title The Scotsman.
When appointed as editor of The Scotsman in December 2001, Iain, (34), became the youngest journalist to take on the role, and during his time there he oversaw the conversion of the title from broadsheet to compact.
He was also previously political editor of The Scotsman and was assistant editor (politics) and then deputy editor of Scotland on Sunday before joining The Scotsman.
He began his newspaper career on The Sunday Times in Scotland.
Scotland on Sunday was bought by Johnston Press earlier this year as part of its deal to purchase Scotsman Publications Ltd.
It had previously been owned by The Press Holdings Group, the holding company of the Barclay Brothers, who also own the Telegraph Group.
