Regional press editor Terry Redhead has enjoyed five minutes of fame on prime time television gameshow, The Weakest Link.
Archant Norfolk's weeklies editor Terry made his appearance on Anne Robinson's show, which coined the catchphrase, 'You are the weakest link...goodbye', following a practical joke by a colleague.
And after receiving a call-up for the quiz show Terry travelled to Pinewood Studios for filming - only to be voted out in the first round by his fellow contestants.
He said: "I didn't actually apply for the show but was sent a letter from the production company thanking me for my application, so clearly someone must have thought it would be a laugh to put me forward.
"When they asked me to come for an audition in Norwich, I thought it might be fun, so I went along."
During the initial audition Terry joined other hopefuls and was asked to speak about himself for 60 seconds, play a round of the quiz, answer 30 general knowledge questions and do a piece to camera.
Later he received a letter telling him he had been selected to take part in the show.
He said: "I was introduced to various producers, fellow contestants (they make three shows every Monday and Wednesday) and went through to make-up which was the worst bit for a very old fashioned bloke like me!"
Sadly, his fame was short-lived and his early demise meant that the practised 'banter' with Anne never reached the TV screens.
Terry said: "In the first round I was one of six of the nine contestants who got a question wrong and, yes, it may be an excuse, but I misheard what Anne asked me.
"I was voted off despite not being the weakest link. I have to say that my fellow contestants really were a pretty unintelligent bunch, as was proved when they finally only managed a small winning prize total.
"Anne was going to be mean about us 'yokels' in Norfolk, living in a county time forgot and also take the doings out of me for being short and for having an allotment.
"I was disappointed to be knocked out of the competition so early as I was going to give as good as I got but unfortunately didn't get the chance."
