Death of former Thomson chairman

The former chairman of Thomson Regional Newspapers Angus Burnett-Stuart has died aged 92.

Angus, who also served on the board of the Press Association, began his career in newspapers after serving in the Second World War.

The then minister for air, Lord Swinton recommended Angus to Lord Kemsley, who was looking for young managers to take his newspaper businesses forward.

Angus retired in 1971 and spent much of his retirement on the mountains, moors and rivers of Inverness-shire with his labradors and spaniels.

Angus married Margaret Bickersteth in 1941. They are survived by their daughters, Fiona and Jennifer, and five grandchildren. Following Margaret's death, Angus married Barbara in 1965.
