Deputy to take over editor's chair at Lincolnshire paper

The Scunthorpe Telegraph’s deputy editor, Jane Manning, has been appointed as editor.

Her promotion follows Jon Grubb’s move to take over as editor of the Lincolnshire Echo.

He, in turn, replaces Mike Sassi, who will start as editor-in-chief at Stoke this week. Mike takes over from Sean Dooley, who is retiring.

The Telegraph put on 1.5 per cent in the latest six-monthly ABC circulation figures, and now sells, Monday to Friday, 21,116 copies.

Jane said: "The Scunthorpe Telegraph is one of Northcliffe's best performing titles.

"I have been part of the team which has achieved that success and it is an honour and a privilege to be given the opportunity to now take over the controls.

"I would also like to pay tribute to Jon Grubb, whose deputy I have been for three years, and who has been an inspiration."

Jane was appointed deputy to Jon Grubb in April 2003 and has been at the Telegraph since 1995.

She joined the Northcliffe group in 1989 as a senior reporter and then education correspondent at the Hull Daily Mail after starting her career at the Wisbech Standard after training at Harlow College.

Her new role takes effect from Wednesday.
